Class 11 European Day of Languages Assembly
Class 11 entertained parents with their assembly all about European Day of Languages. The pupils informed the audience of how and when the first European Day of Language began and the reasons for celebrating it. They sang songs, outlined the importance of learning a language and highlighted how it can provide opportunities in life that could prove to be useful for example in the world of work and careers. They presented to the pupils too which was a wonderful start to the week's European Day of Languages celebrations!
Class 6 Cultural Diversity Assembly
Our assembly was linked to World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and this is celebrated worldwide on 21st May. Also known as Diversity Day, it is a great way to learn about cultures around the world and celebrate what makes us all unique and special. As a class we have been looking at cultures across the world and how everyone is special and unique. Each child wrote about why they are special and unique and drew self portraits. The children spoke clearly and confidently to their parents. We also looked at Human Rights across the world and the importance of including everyone in events no matter what they look like! The whole class are very musical and love singing, therefore we looked at examples of music from different cultures. We sang 'Daw hyfryd fis' as we had been looking at the Welsh language used in Patagonia, sang a West African Round 'Banuwa' and some children used the percussion instruments as an accompaniment. The highlight of the assembly was the singing and signing of 'This is me, we even had an encore! Da iawn Dosbarth 6.
Class 5 International Mother Language Day Assembly
On Friday 23rd of February the Year 2/3 pupils led their first class assembly to celebrate International Mother Language Day. The 21st of February was declared to be International Mother Language Day by UNESCO on the 17th of November 1999 and it has been observed throughout the world since 2000. Its aim is to recognise and promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. As well as testing the audience's listening skills with a quiz, the children also performed 2 songs during their assembly. They learnt a very catchy song called 'Hello to all the children of the world' where they sang 'hello' in different languages and they also performed the Gwauncelyn song they created with the Welsh Whisperer. All of the children were fantastic throughout the assembly. They said their lines clearly and confidently using their best 'presenter' voices. Da iawn Dosbarth 5!
