**SCHOOL CLOSED - 24TH AND 25TH JUNE**

Subject: School Closure – Extreme Heat

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that, following a thorough risk assessment and careful consideration with our Chair of Governors, Gwauncelyn Primary School will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to the current extreme heat conditions.

This has not been an easy decision. However, the health and safety of our pupils and staff must remain our highest priority.

Despite implementing a range of control measures, temperatures within classrooms are currently exceeding recommended safe working levels. In addition, the school site has limited shaded areas, with only our woodland providing consistent shade, making it increasingly difficult to ensure safe conditions throughout the day.

We have explored all possible options to remain open safely, but the current environment presents an unacceptable risk, particularly for our younger children and those with additional or medical needs.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely but from tracking the forecast for Friday, school should be open as usual.
